It grew to include the writings of the Bhakti poets and saints. It gained huge popularity and became part of all important festivals and rituals in the village households.

Jakadi
Presented by: Haribhau NrutyaKala Pathak

From the Chiplun district of Konkan comes this dance form which is also known as Balya dance. It is performed by men. They wear bells around their right ankles (ghungroo) and dance in a circle. The dance is energetic and the footwork is designed to create an intoxicating beat.
  Shahiri Phulora
Presented by: Shahir Madhukar Nerale and his troupe

Shahir is a poet and lyricist whose work contains a strong comment on the social reality of the day. Traditionally, Shahirs sing their own creations, with musical support from their troupes. Shahirs from Girangaon were very active during the freedom struggle and later during the Samyukta Maharashtra Chalval and the wars with China and Pakistan. They wrote patriotic songs to create public awareness. The performance during the Girangaon festival included timeless creations of Shahir Amar Sheikh and others, to invoke the era gone by.

Lezim
Presented by: nekar and Kaleshvaridevi Prasadik Mandal

A folk dance form unique to Maharashtra, this is performed by a group of people using lezim - sticks which have small cymbals attached. The energetic footwork is matched with rhythmic movements of the lezim, to achieve a heady tempo.
  Bhajan
Presented by: Navaldevi Prasadik Bhajan Mandal

The spiritual songs written by the saints of the Bhakti movement, called Abhang, were set to music by creative mill workers of Girangaon. Years ago, when there were no mass media for entertainment, groups of mill workers got together every evening to sing these bhajans. Some of them sang, while the others provided musical accompaniment. The Bhajan Mandals became a popular feature of life and culture in Girangaon.

Bharud
Presented by: hwaridevi Prasadik Mandal

The writings of Saint Eknath were popular in the 12th and 13th century in Maharashtra. Eknath’s work included scathing remarks on social inequalities. Though they were spiritual and educative in nature, his abhangs were known for their dramatic effect on people. His works came to be known as bharud. His messages have not lost their relevance and bharud is popular in the villages of Maharashtra even today.
  Lawani – Batavani
Presented by: Rupanjali and her troupe

A very popular folk dance form of Maharashtra, Laavani is a seductive, sensuous dance performed by women, to the tune of songs which have suggestive lyrics. It does, however, have a spiritual undercurrent – the stories performed on stage usually include Krishna and Radha. The male members of the troupe join in Batavani - a series of humorous skits performed before and after dance items, which elevates the performance to a ‘higher’ level, with its poignant comments on current socio-political scenario.
