After a very successful orientation programme for the new youth fellows, the following workshops were organized towards the process of training the youth in conducting social science research:

Workshop on Story Writing

Participants: Catalysts of all groups and PUKAR Team

Facilitator: Gopal Ajgaonkar

Date: 4th August 2007

The prime objectives of this workshop were to help the participants to break barriers related to writing, to guide them in writing their individual Biography reports and to develop their interest in textual documentation.

Gopal Ajgaonkar explained various aspects of creating and narrating stories through group exercises. He brought out the importance of story writing as a medium of entertainment, a form of expression and also a reflection of personal value system. There was a discussion on the principles of Narrative therapy.

Workshop on Photography

Participants: Catalysts of all groups and PUKAR Team

Facilitator: Sanjay Pethe

Date: 9th September 2007

A workshop on Photography was held to introduce to the youth fellows the medium of photography as a tool for documentation.  Sanjay Pethe shared his experiences related to photography as a hobby and a profession. He also emphasized the importance of photography as a medium of self expression and creativity and then focussed his discussion on photography as documentation.

He spoke about practical aspects of photography and provided tips for shooting in public spaces, taking photographs of human beings and religious subjects etc. A photographic exercise was conducted with the theme of 'Ganapati Festival'. The participants clicked photographs based on the theme within an allotted time period; which were then discussed and valuable suggestions were given by Sanjay Pethe.
